Hello, I am Jenny the Nursery Manager here at First Steps Portsmouth, and act as designated safeguarding officer.
I have worked in the childcare industry for more than 25 years, in Pre-schools, Speech and language, and also at the Roko Health club as the Junior activities manager. I have extensive training including level 5 in Leadership and management.
I have served several years as a school governor and held positions as secretary and chairperson for the Pre-school Learning Alliance.
I am also responsible for compiling and cooking the healthy meals eaten with the nursery.
Level 3 - First Aid, Two Year Old Training, Safeguarding
Holly works within the Pre-school area having recently moved from the two year old room, but, brings with her some sound and sensible knowledge of the foundation stage along with her loving and nurturing nature. She continues to embrace new ideas and is eager to provide a varied array of experiences building on children’s choices.
Level 3 - Management Training, Safeguarding, First Aid
Sarah is married and lives locally, she has worked in childcare since 2002. She has worked in several settings in senior positions and is now a positive addition to our two year old room, bringing with a her a wealth of experience. She has experience of makaton signing with speech and language training. Sarah prides herself in keeping all necessary training up to date to support her in her level three early years practitioner role. She loves to see children learn new skills and achieve.
Level 3 - Behaviour Management, EAL, Safeguarding, First Aid, Food Hygiene
Chantelle has been working with children since 2007 having started when still at school. She is level 3 qualified, a first aider , food and hygiene and basic safeguarding , She enjoys helping the children learn and watching them laugh. Chantelle excels at encouraging and supporting communication amongst the babies in her care. And also has behaviour management training.
Level 3 - First Aid, Safeguarding
Hannah works within the Rainbow area. She is level 3 qualified and also has first aid and safeguarding training. Hannah has been on training courses for working with 2-3 year olds and EYFS training.She works part-time and has experience in all areas, but primarily within the pre-school room where she supports the keyworkers with observation and assessment tasks, whilst ensuring the safety of children is maintained.
Level 3 - Team Leading, Safeguarding & Food Hygiene
Chelsea is our Deputy manager, Pre-school supervisor. SENCO and is responsible for the shared role of safeguarding and behaviour management.
Having worked within the 2-5 year age range, Chelsea is able to see areas for development required for children to meet their milestones and access different experiences and learn new skills. Chelsea adds a professional yet, fun element to the Nursery, encouraging and supporting children to learn through play.
Level 3 - First Aid, Safeguarding, Food Hygiene
Shanice works as a practitioner within our Little Steps room. She joined us as an apprentice and has worked in all age ranges 8weeks -12 years. She is knowledgeable, hard working and conscientious member of the team. She displays a wonderful rapport with the children. In addition to the mandatory training Shanice has completed her level two in room leading. Shanice re joins First Steps from Maternity Leave and will be working part time hours in the interim.
Level 3 - Management Training, First Aid, Food Hygiene, Safeguarding
Michelle works within Little Steps and has experience working with various aged children, and has also previously held management positions too.
She has quickly fitted into our nursery team and displays confidence and professionalism when communicating with the team, children and parents, being able to offer support and advice when required.
Level 3 + First Aid
safeguardingAllana works within our Pre-school room and displays a wealth of knowledge across the early years age range. She is a hardworking and reliable member of the team, with a sensible head on her shoulders. She is qualified to level three in childcare and has experience working as a lead practitioner.
Level 2 - Food Hygiene, Safeguarding, Makaton, First Aid
Laura is qualified as an early years assistant and is working with our two year old children, whilst undergoing her level three training in childcare. She has several years of experience and demonstrates a relaxed, gentle and caring rapport with the children. She has attended training in Makaton and safeguarding.
Level 2 - Food Hygiene - Safeguarding
Suzan is employed to work across the nursery in all rooms as she expands her knowledge within the early years industry whilst continuing her training from level two to level three. Suzan has the drive to push herself to do the very best she can, and always displays her eagerness to learn.
Level 3 - Makaton, SENCO, ECAT, Safeguarding, First Aid
My name is Jenny, I work with the under 3 year old children as a level 3 practitioner. My qualifications include childcare NVQ level 3, SENCO training, Makaton and courses involving healthy eating and speech Development.
I have 12-13 years’ experience working in the childcare industry but took some time off to look after my own little girl. I am now eager to get back into the everyday nursery life to help the children learn, development and grow.

Amy has joined the Big Steps room as a Level 3 practitioner. She is keen to build on relationships with staff, parents and children and also to work with the children to allowing them to develop at their own pace and to help them to reach their potential, striving for the best outcome for those in her care. Amy is a hard working and reliable member of our team.
Level 3 Practitioner
Jessica has joined the Little Steps area as an experienced Level 3 practitioner and is looking to take over responsibility as room leader soon.
Jessicas’s cheery nature and creative flair have further enhanced the atmosphere and environment in the nursery. Her supportive attitude towards team members and children has helped develop relationships and to enhance the children’s learning.
