Rooms and Ratios

All nurseries in the UK have to be registered with Ofsted and their role is:

To protect and ensure the welfare of children. To ensure that children are safe, well cared for and take part in activities that contribute to their learning and development. To ensure that day care providers and childminders meet the National Standards.

In order to meet those National Standards, at First Steps we have different rooms for different aged children.

Our Nursery rooms are:

Baby Room

Toddler Room

Pre-school Rooms x 2

We maintain a degree of flexibility for the children to move into the next group dependent on their personal stage of development and also dependant on the current demand for spaces within a particular group.

How many staff will there be at Nursery?

The number of staff working at the Nursery depends on how many children are attending that particular day.  We ensure we adhere to the staff to children ratio’s, which are:
1:3 for children under 2 years old.
1:5 for children aged between 2 and 3 years old.
1:8 for children aged 3 years and older. This can increase to a ratio of 1:13 if the practitioner has QTS status.
